Experience the power of public education.
On April 26 the Joe T. Robinson DECA Chapter of Arkansas, including one advisor(Debora Cosen) and two students(Austin and Alexis Jones) embarked on their trip to ICDC, the International level of Competition for DECA, in Anaheim California. They arrived that Wednesday afternoon to sunny weather and people from all over the country and world. The first day they attended Opening Session and the parade of flags, a celebration of everyone that worked hard to make it to the final stage to compete.
Alexis competed in Principles of Business and Administration having previously retained 1st place at the statewide competition. Austin Competed in the Sport and Entertainment Marketing Series having received 3rd place at the state level. While neither student advanced to the finals in their respective competitions, both gained knowledge for competing next year as well as the experience competing on a high level with like minded individuals.
While in California the advisor and two students visited the original Disneyland and watched the world famous light show. They Went to the famous Roscoe’s Chicken and Waffles where Alexis tried the “Obama Special”. They also tried a “Joe-latti” from Joe’s Italian Ice, which is a combination of italian ice, soft serve ice cream and Dreyer’s ice cream, which they highly recommend if ever in the Anaheim area. The group later went to Downtown Disney to round out their stay.
Along with many souvenirs and mild sunburn the trio brought back memories of a lifetime as well as the knowledge to mentor other students in how to make it to the international level and succeed. They hope to return to next year's competition in Atlanta with more students and return home with trophies in their bags.
